Borealis Corporate Press Release Dated 23 May 2000

Borealis Technical Limited, Gibraltar
23rd May 2000

Research and Development specialists Borealis Technical Limited today announced a patent, titled "Method and Apparatus for a Vacuum Thermionic Converter with Thin Film Carbonaceous Field Emission" 6,064,137 has been issued by the US Patent Office on May 16th, 2000.

One aspect of the patent covers a technology for converting heat into electricity using a vacuum diode with a diamond surface. Power is generated by causing electrons to be emitted from the diamond surface. The electrons then travel across a tiny vacuum gap to generate a current on the other side of the device.

Thermionic generators were first proposed in 1915, but the patent applies the latest micro-machining techniques used in the semi-conductor industry to create more efficient power generators which can be mass-produced with techniques similar to those used in the manufacture of modern computer chips.

"This patent extends our coverage of thermionic technologies to include all uses of advanced diamond and diamond-like compounds." says Borealis President Isaiah Cox. "These compounds show promising results for electron emission and we are pleased to further expand our already dominant IP position in the field."
